Privacy Policy

What we collect, what we don't, and what you can do about it.

01Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how Guessr ("we," "us," "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Guessr mobile application and the guessr.app website (together, the "Service").

By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.

02Data we collect

We collect only what we need to run and improve the Service:

  • Device identifiers — an anonymous, app-scoped ID (Apple's IDFV) used to keep your subscription tied to your install.
  • Usage events — which screens you visit, which features you tap, anonymised performance metrics.
  • Subscription status — whether you're on Free or Pro, and your renewal state (handled by Apple's StoreKit and RevenueCat).
  • Prompt text — the topic you type to generate a deck is sent to our AI provider for the duration of generation, then discarded.
  • Crash logs — automatic crash reports if the app crashes, with no personally identifying content.

03How we use your data

We use the data above to: operate the Service, generate decks from your prompts, manage your subscription, fix bugs, prevent abuse, and understand which features are useful so we can improve them.

We do not use your data to build advertising profiles. We do not sell your data.

04Data we do NOT collect

We've made deliberate choices to collect less:

  • Video recordings stay on your device. We never upload them.
  • Generated deck content is not retained on our servers after delivery.
  • Location data is not collected.
  • Contacts, calendar, or photos are not accessed unless you explicitly export a deck.

05Third-party services

We rely on a small set of well-known processors. Each has its own privacy policy, linked below:

  • Firebase Analytics (Google) — anonymous usage analytics.
  • RevenueCat — manages in-app purchases and subscription state.
  • OpenAI API — generates the contents of each deck from your prompt. OpenAI does not train on Guessr API traffic.
  • Vercel — hosts the guessr.app website and serves these pages.

06Children's privacy

Guessr is rated 12+. The Kids age mode is designed to be safe for younger players when used under adult supervision, but we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact inmobile.services@gmail.com and we'll delete it.

07Data retention

Analytics events are retained for 14 months and then automatically deleted. Subscription records are retained as long as your account is active and for up to 7 years after, for tax and compliance reasons.

You can request deletion of all data tied to your device at any time by emailing inmobile.services@gmail.com.

08Your rights

If you are in the EU/UK (GDPR) or California (CCPA), you have the right to access, correct, delete, port, and object to the processing of your personal data. To exercise any of these rights, email inmobile.services@gmail.com. We'll respond within 30 days.

09Cookies

The guessr.app website uses a single first-party analytics cookie to count page views. The mobile app uses no cookies.

EU visitors will see a consent banner before any non-essential cookie is set.

10Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the effective date above and notify active users via the app on next launch. Past versions are archived at /privacy/v[n].
