Privacy Policy

What we collect, what we don't, and what you can do about it.

01Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how Guessr ("we," "us," "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Guessr mobile application and the guessr.app website (together, the "Service").

By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.

02Data we collect

We collect only what we need to run and improve the Service:

  • Device identifiers — an anonymous, app-scoped ID (Apple's IDFV) used to keep your subscription tied to your install.
  • Usage events — which screens you visit, which features you tap, anonymised performance metrics.
  • Subscription status — whether you're on Free or Pro, and your renewal state (handled by Apple's StoreKit and RevenueCat).
  • Prompt text — the topic you type to generate a deck is sent to our AI provider for the duration of generation, then discarded.
  • Crash logs — automatic crash reports if the app crashes, with no personally identifying content.
  • Token wallet identifier — for Guessr Tokens, a pseudonymous device identifier (Android's ANDROID_ID, or an app-generated identifier stored in your iOS device's Keychain) is cryptographically hashed before it ever reaches our servers, and used only to keep your Token balance tied to this device and to help prevent abuse. It is never used for advertising or cross-app tracking.
  • Referral eligibility — if you use the referral program, the same hashed device identifier described above is used to issue your referral code, to decide whether this device is still eligible to redeem someone else's code (each device may redeem once), and to prevent referral abuse. We store the hash, never the raw device identifier.
  • Referral attribution on Android — on Android, we may use Google Play Install Referrer during installation or first launch to attribute a referral. We do not store the raw Install Referrer value; we retain only the information needed to process the referral.

Referral codes are not secret: they are meant to be shared, and anyone you give yours to can see it. Using the referral program also produces ordinary usage events (for example, "a referral was redeemed" and whether it succeeded) — those events record the outcome and the platform only, never the referral code itself, your device identifier, or your Token balance.

03How we use your data

We use the data above to: operate the Service, generate decks from your prompts, manage your subscription, fix bugs, prevent abuse, and understand which features are useful so we can improve them.

We do not use your data to build advertising profiles. We do not sell your data.

04Data we do NOT collect

We've made deliberate choices to collect less:

  • Video and audio from a recorded round stay on your device. We never upload them.
  • Generated deck content is not retained on our servers after delivery.
  • Location data is not collected.
  • Contacts and calendar are never accessed. Your photo library is only written to — never read — and only when you save a recorded round to your camera roll.

05Third-party services

We rely on a small set of well-known processors. Each has its own privacy policy, linked below:

  • Firebase Analytics (Google) — anonymous usage analytics.
  • RevenueCat — manages in-app purchases and subscription state.
  • Google (Gemini, via Firebase AI) — generates the contents of each deck from your prompt. Google does not use Guessr's API traffic to train its models.
  • Firebase Hosting (Google) — hosts the Guessr website and serves these pages.

06Children's privacy

Guessr is rated 12+. The Kids age mode is designed to be safe for younger players when used under adult supervision, but we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact guessr@inmobileservices.com and we'll delete it.

07Data retention

Analytics events are retained for 14 months and then automatically deleted. Subscription records are retained as long as your account is active and for up to 7 years after, for tax and compliance reasons.

You can request deletion of all data tied to your device at any time by emailing guessr@inmobileservices.com.

08Your rights

If you are in the EU/UK (GDPR) or California (CCPA), you have the right to access, correct, delete, port, and object to the processing of your personal data. To exercise any of these rights, email guessr@inmobileservices.com. We'll respond within 30 days.

09Cookies

This website sets no cookies at all — no analytics, no tracking, no third-party scripts. The mobile app uses no cookies either.

Because nothing is stored on your device by this site, there is no consent banner to show.

10Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the effective date above and notify active users via the app on next launch. Past versions are archived at /privacy/v[n].
